Grant Administrator (GA) was first introduced at the departmental levels at universities in Boston in the mid 1990s.   Due to the ease of use, affordability, and reporting capabilities, it quickly received a reputation as the best alternative to spreadsheets and other home grown systems for pre and/or post-award grant tracking software.

Over the course of the past two decades, more powerful features for tracking effort, salary, fringe, and F&A were added in addition to a wider range of reporting options, making GA popular especially among principal investigators, grant managers, and departmental administrators.

Today, GA is being implemented as grant tracking software in a wide range of settings in addition to universities, colleges and research centers.  These include DOTs, police offices, museums, school districts, and non-profit agencies at local and state levels.   It is flexible enough to be used for detailed or for very general information in any of these settings.
